Tudor England is a fascinating period not just for the characters of the monarchs that ruled, The Tudors, but also for the changes that took place during it. While immediately caused by Henry VIII’s desire for a male heir, the religious changes in this period did not come entirely from above as is evidenced by the anti-clericalism of the Reformation Parliament. Indeed it could be argued that this period saw the beginnings of the development of the economic power of the bourgeoisie which would culminate in the English Revolution just a century after the death of Henry VIII.
